Activities
The College of Design Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee is charged with developing and leading activities that support diversity and inclusion across the college. The first College Diversity Action Plan was developed with input from community members across the college. The plan provided 25 tactics over a multi-year period and many actions have been implemented. Starting in Fall 2023, the College began developing a new Strategic Plan, through extensive consultation with faculty, staff, and students. This plan incorporated a range of strategies from the prior plan and incorporated input obtained in response to discussions related to the University’s Climate & Belonging Work.
Several ongoing initiatives that have been a significant part of the College Strategic Plan include:
- College of Design Mentoring Program
- Inclusive Curriculum Workshop (and Grant Program in development)
- Student Affinity Groups (Due to relaunch soon)
- Increasing financial aid to increase student access
- Increase advising capacity to address student retention and graduation rates
- Embed principles of equity and inclusion in management of the College general fund
